Accidents and Accents
For three months earlier this year, I was treating and recovering from two accidents. However, during that experience, I came to terms with the reality of a true English saying, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’. This was revealed in the shape of a handsome doctor and later on, a charming physiotherapist.
Granted, everyone at that hospital is really kind, but my doctor that morning had been really exceptional. See, the lady at the reception had told me that the physiotherapist couldn’t work on me since I had no appointment, -unless I was willing to pay cash. I obviously saw no point in paying cash when I had Insurance. Still, the same lady had said that if I wanted to use Insurance, my doctor had to first contact my Insurance company for approval. And then wait for their feedback.
“How long do they take to respond?” I asked.
“A few days, weeks, we don’t know” replied the receptionist. However I didn’t want my trip to the hospital to be wasted.
From the reception, I was sent to the general doctor’s office to get his referral to see a Physiotherapist. Long story shortened, Dr. Seth must have had mercy on me, because he made a call instructing whoever he was talking to, to schedule me with a Physiotherapist. I don’t recall his exact words, but he said something along the lines of, “What do you mean he can’t see her without an appointment? I have a patient who needs the attention of a Physiotherapist, and the Physiotherapist is around.”
Next thing I knew, he asked me to follow him and I did. We went to the reception and I sat down as he made a call to my Insurance company. When he got off the phone, he said something to the receptionist and then turned to me, “You’re going to see the Physiotherapist. Your Insurance company has approved and they will cover everything”.
True enough, I had my session that day with Marcus, the physiotherapist. When my eyes landed on him for the very first time, I was like, “He’s alright”.
He had the physique and he wasn’t bad to look at, however, that wasn’t enough to sweep me off my feet.
That day I wore a blue dress, which had become a bit tight since the time when I bought it. Later as Marcus worked on me, we talked about everything and nothing in particular: how I prefer bodas to cars, my job, what next if I got married etc…
After my session with him, I asked if he, by any chance, knew whether Dr. Seth was married. At first, Marcus dodged the question and seemed more interested in why I was asking.
“I’m just asking, ” I replied trying to hide a smile.
When Marcus realized that it wasn’t anything more than a crush, he relaxed, and he was a bit generous with his information after that.
Marcus: Dr. Seth is married; to a fellow doctor.
Me: O, I see….the long hours.
Marcus: Actually, he was married, before he started working here.
And just like that, Marcus crashed my dreams of being married to a cute, Indian doctor, with impeccable English. (I would have married that doctor just for his English accent and sense of humor. Yes, sometimes I’m preposterous like that!)
After Marcus gave me my next appointment, I went back to the reception to sign out and pick my Insurance card. As I waited, Dr.Seth passed by. While he walked past me, he inquired whether I had been worked on.
In response, I nodded with a hint of a smile on my face. He seemed satisfied with my reply.
Take this from me: we can’t help falling sick or getting injuries; but having a cute, kind doctor sure does help.
The End!
