Engraved On My Mind-Part 2

Apr 26, 2022

The waitress appeared and we placed our orders. When she left, my date suggested we move to a more private table. He picked the one in the farthest corner at the back. When we had both settled in, “No phones,” he announced smiling. I nodded, putting mine away.

Engraved On My Mind-Part 1

There is always that uneasiness when you meet someone for the very first time. True, I was a bit nervous, but once we started talking and laughing, the jazz kept flowing. He remarked about my English. I smiled and told him I went to good schools with amazing teachers.
“I also read a lot. Not so much nowadays, but I used to read a lot,” I added. To this, he replied that he was not a fan of reading.

I liked him, he was lovable. I mean, why wouldn’t I? For starters, he thought I was five years younger than my actual age. Of course I had to like him. Then he was funny, charming and modest.

Our food arrived. It was delicious. Halfway our meal, he looked up from his plate half smiling and asked if he could feed me. I was taken aback. Did he want to give me a heart attack? The look on my face made him laugh.

“Nooo…. I’m shy,” I protested. Find me any girl that would say yes to that and I’ll give you a million dollars.

Like the gentleman that he was, he covered the bill and left a tip. The sun was fading when we left the restaurant. Darkness was starting to creep in. We went for a walk in the direction of my place. We would part ways along the way.

It was a beautiful evening. A gentle breeze was blowing. “You are very soft!” He remarked taking hold of my hand. “I get that a lot,” I said. The scenery and location were incredible. Anyone watching us would have sworn we were in love. It’s like we had known ourselves for years.

It was now quite dark. We crossed the road to the other side because it seemed safer. I was loving every minute. Next thing I knew, I was in the air.

Unexpectedly, he had stopped moving; one hand around my waist and the other around my legs, he had scooped me up. I gasped as he lifted me to his chest. I’m terrified of heights. Instinctively, I wrapped my hands around his neck for support.

“You’re not so heavy,” he said, finally putting me down. I most certainly wasn’t expecting that. I gazed around as I reorganized my clothes, hair and cross bag. Save for a car or two that rushed by occasionally, we were alone. I noticed the cameras by the road. I only hoped they were not working. What a scene that was!

We soon reached a roundabout. The place was moderately busy. I ordered a ride using one of the apps. As we waited, he slipped a note inside my hand and closed my fingers around it. He said it was transport. I couldn’t take it. I told him I had transport.

“I know, but I want you to have it”. His mind seemed made up. I took the money and thanked him.

The app was not responding. I stopped a normal boda and negotiated with the rider.

I hugged and thanked Prince Charming for the wonderful evening. Everything about it had been sweet and special. He smiled and waved as we rode away.

Years later, that incredible date is still engraved on my mind.

The End.
